ECHOCARDIOGRAMS
Managing the Cardiac Patient
A diagnosis of heart disease in a cat or dog can be a scary one for any pet owner. Thankfully, there are many diagnostic tools and medications available to help board certified veterinary cardiologists and general practice veterinarians manage the symptoms and progression of cardiac disease.
|
What is an Echocardiogram?
One informative diagnostic option is the echocardiogram, also known as an echo or cardiac ultrasound. This non-invasive procedure is an important tool to help veterinarians diagnose heart disease and manage cardiac treatment recommendations. An echo uses sound waves to create a real time picture of the heart and how it is functioning. During an echocardiogram, we can look at the different chambers of the heart, measure blood flow, and evaluate the general structure of the heart.

Where can you find a practitioner who can perform an Echocardiogram?
One option is to visit a board certified veterinary cardiologist. Another option is to schedule an appointment to see a veterinarian who has been specially trained in the art of cardiac ultrasound, such as our very own Dr. Levinson. After spending years as a board certified emergency and critical care veterinarian in a specialty practice, Dr. Levinson has developed a passion and skill for managing the cardiac patient.
